A gathering to celebrate the Spring Equinox and the life and vision of Frik Grobbelaar, founder of Rustlers Valley, will be held on 19 to 21 September 2008.
Music gatherings, parties and festivals started at Rustlers Valley in 1992 at the visionary retreat near Ficksburg in the Free State created and developed by the late Frik Grobbelaar over the past 26 years. Rustlers Valley was taken out in a huge fire on 19 September 2007 and sadly Frik passed away on Earth Day 22 April this year. This Spring Equinox gathering was one he planned to hold, exactly a year after the fire so in his memory, the Rustlers family will come together to celebrate the new season and the music once again. The numerous messages received from all over the planet bear testimony to the extraordinary impact Frik and Rustlers Valley had on many lives.
Awake will host an amazing line-up of artists who are coming together to celebrate the life and times of the gentle giant, Frik Grobbelaar. What better way to do this than a full weekend of music in the spectacular valley which was Frik’s pride and passion. Join us from the 19th till the 21st of September for what will prove to be the festival of the year and the rebirth of an event that has a legendary reputation in SA and around the world.
Musically you can expect to hear some original soul and funk, quality indie and new disco, the true underground sounds of techno and house, dubstep and reggae with some live psychedelia thrown in for good measure. In other words, something for everyone and an excess of quality
In addition to 48 hours of awesome music, there are Anton’s Spaza selling necessities, Rohini’s Karma Free Food, a cash bar basic camping facilities, flush toilets and hot showers for this gathering.
Thanks to Red Bull for flying in the Cape DJs, and to CES Media, White Noise and Indaskys for sound, light and projection. Thanks also to all the bands and DJs for their energy and support.
There will be no monetary charge for this gathering but contributions to the Rebuilding Rustlers Valley fund, or whatever will add to the gathering are welcomed. Organisers are also asking those attending to email awake@rustlers.co.za to let them know. Over 200 people have already registered their attendance, most offering help.
