Viral pinkeye is easily spread from person to person, and there is no specific treatment. Most cases of viral pink eye are mild. The infection will usually clear up in 7 to 10 days without treatment and without any long-term consequences. However, in some cases, it may take 2 to 3 weeks or more to heal. If symptoms last longer than that, you should see an ophthalmologist.
Measures to support the treatment of pink eye
Wash your eyes and keep them clean. Regarding eye drops used for pink eye, patients can use physiological saline (sodium chloride, 0.9%) or distilled water to wash their eyes.
Apply a cold compress by applying a cool, wet towel to your eyes in cases of red, swollen eyes. People with active conjunctivitis can use dark goggles to help reduce photophobia and prevent frequent eye touching.
Tips to prevent pink eye infection
That eye pain is very contagious from person to person. Follow these tips so you don't infect others or yourself.
Use a clean towel or tissue every time you wipe your face and eyes.
Use a separate towel.
Wash your hands regularly with soap, especially before and after eating, after going to the toilet, or after coughing or sneezing.
Try not to touch your eyes. If touched, wash your hands immediately.
Do not wear eye makeup when your eyes are infected.
Do not wear contact lenses until conjunctivitis is gone.
Things not to do when you have pink eyes
Not maintaining eye hygiene and personal hygiene.
Arbitrarily using drops containing corticosteroids or drugs of unknown ingredients into the eyes. This is not only ineffective but also makes the damage worse, prolongs the duration and spread of the disease, and increases the risk of infection.
