Is This Your First Record? Khromata gets ready to make her UK debut at Tribal Village
Written by Tara on 08-01-20 19:16 (616 views)
We first met Eileen Lewis aka Khromata in Copenhagen, where we'd all arranged to meet for the 20 Years of Iboga Hologram Party. After seeing her awesome set there, we just knew we had to get her over to the UK to play one day. It’s a cliché that music brings people together, but when you’ve got six progressive trance lovers representing five continents converging on Copenhagen for one very special event, in this case it was most certainly true. While many of the world’s psychedelic music fans descended on Goa for their annual pilgrimage in winter 2017, we battled the snow at Luton to fly north for the 20 Years of Iboga Records Hologram Party in Denmark – and one of the highlights of that weekend was definitely Khromata’s epic closing set at the afterparty.

Nearly three years on, we’ve finally booked Eileen to come to the UK to play in the second room at Tribal Village, but there’s a bit more to the story than that. Since then, Wendy Whitehead aka Malkpa and I (aka FlibbertiGibbet) have formed our collaborative project Amaluna, and the second room at Tribal Village doubles as the launch party for our compilation on Free-Spirit Records, Lunar Phase, which includes Khromata’s debut track, Is This Your First Record?

With the countdown to Tribal Village on Saturday 18th January at The Steel Yard well underway, we managed to speak to Eileen ahead of her flight across the pond…

One of the most recent signings to legendary London psy trance label Free-Spirit Records, Steve Birch aka Merlin’s Apprentice is actually one of the veterans of the rave scene who’s been making music since he first caught the dance music bug in the ’90s.

While his latest ‘Flotation’ EP as Steve Birch on J00F Recordings has recently rocketed to the top of the Beatport Psy Trance charts, with it sitting at No. 9 at the time of writing, as Merlin’s Apprentice he’s booked for a load of epic events and festivals over the coming summer months, including this weekend’s Goa Creme Festival, the launch of new UK transformational festival Anthropos Festival, the Psymera Summer Boat Party, and of course Tribal Village on Saturday 18th May at The Steelyard. Two of the most charismatic kids in our crazy scene, Hamish Blair and Mark Bedders have always done much more for music than just rock up and play records. Not content with producing some of the most cracking parties London has experienced, it was no doubt a natural progression that they’d also dabble in the world of music curation and have a crack at running their own label.

Ten years on, Furthur Progressions is going as strong as ever, and this Saturday night the lads are planning an event of epic proportions – PRISM at London’s recently refurbished Steelyard – to celebrate. With the excitement brewing and the clock ticking, we managed to catch up with Hamish and Bedders to get the lowdown on music, mud and um horse bites…

Winston A Young aka MC K :: Remembering a Clubland Legend
Written by Jessica Alici on 19-02-19 12:12 (6252 views)
Winston A Young AKA MC K has been a pillar of the Hard House clubbing scene in London since its birth! In fact, if it wasn’t for Winston, it’s very likely the Hard House scene would not have grown to the grand heights it did. Winston was not only a pioneering and powerful promoter and an awesome and inspiring MC, he was also a loyal and encouraging friend. A good soul who supported artists and clubbers alike; he helped launch careers and also created a clubland family in London with his legendary Sunnyside Up and Mind Over Matter parties. On top of all this, he was most importantly, a father, a grandfather and a brother - a family man. Sadly Winston passed away in October 2018. The loss to our community is huge and on the 24th February 2019 at Camden Palace (aka KOKO), a memorial event is being held so we can come together again to commemorate Winston and to celebrate his life.
