In 2019, US duo Desert Dwellers dropped the latest instalment in the Downtempo Dub series. The album is called "Breath" and is a mixture of ambient sounds and progressive beats, suitable for meditation and for shuffling around. A variety of languages are utilised in the songs that encompass this album; this includes Gaelic, Arabic, Spanish and Welsh. What's interesting though is that the songs are utilised by the same vocalist, a multi-lingual vocalist Meagan Chandler.
We've already covered some of the tracks on the Re-Imagined Vol.1 collection but here they are in their original forms. On listening to the album last night, I felt a calmness wash over me. With the current situation at the moment, we need some serenity in our lives to help us cope with what's going on. The uniqueness of the tracks, indeed most of the Dwellers' work, is what drew me to the duo. This rings true with the album's opener, "Praise Her, The Fire Keeper", an ode to the Morning Star, the brightest star in the night sky. The coolest track though, for me, is To Be The Air, which is airy and almost slightly Arctic in style.
The 10 tracks definitely invoke a sense of calm, despite their progressive house, almost trancey, feel. At the end of the set, we have "Breathing The Mysteries", a track remixed by Bluetech on Re-Imagined Vol.1. "Breath" is worth a seek out if you like calming, seductive, progressive/ambient music. And with three remix editions, two already released, the album will probably stay with you for a while.
