Orbital Frame

» Anubis/Metratron Orb

Label: High Fish Ditigal
Format: Digital
Genre: Trance/Hard Trance

One of my favourite Vinyl labels finally gets back on track, this time in digital for, with 2 excellent tracks from Swedish whizz kid Orbital Frame!

Anubis starts with a pumping kick and bass combo, which is shortly joined by a crunch clap and lots of swirling, ethereal sounds. Intelligent hooks and some fantastic use of FX again demonstrate why Orbital Frame/Mauguzun is one of the fastest rising producers. It never really ventures into proper hard trance, opting to stay at the harder end of tech trance, but this is no bad thing. The breakdown is more Psy in nature than typical trance. There’s no main riff here, just a selection of equally excellent squelchy sounds. Lush pads then rise into the mix, shortly before it drops back in again. The lush pads stay as the focal point of the tune even as it drops, but it doesn’t lose any energy as a result of this. An excellently placed bass change really adds energy late on in the mix too, making for an all round excellent track.

The Metatron Orb is in a similar vein to Anubis and is just as well made. No bass from the start is the main difference early on, but it loses no drive because of it. The bass drop here is fantastic, very powerful after some seemingly random chopping. Again there seems to be a lack of a real riff early on, but this changes at it heads into the breakdown where the most fantastic of synth sounds that is so out there I cant even begin to describe just attacks you with a nice little solo. I still had a huge grin on my chops when in came the full fat 303 madness just for good measure.
Yes, suffice to say I enjoyed this tune no end, and more proof (if it were needed) that this guy is the future of harder trance music.
