This blatantly German smash hit has finally been brought to the UK's dance scene, by none other than the superb London based record company Edel UK. Managed by Jens Thele, Scooter (H.P. Baxxter (vocals), Rick J Jordan (pianist), Axel Coon (recently quitted) and newest member Jay Frog) have a proven track record of churning out quality releases, with "Ramp! (The Logical Song)" (a cover of Supertramp's 'The Logical Song') having already achieved gold and platinum awards in Norway. With past hits such as "Nessaja" & "She's The Sun", I feel sure that this one is another winner for Scooter and Edel. The style of the vocals are almost identical to those used in his previous chart smash "Posse (I Need You On The Floor)", crazy….but absolutely wicked!
First up is "The Club Mix". This has a good solid low end arrangement, including some superb drum loops, and the addition of the high end synths really adding lots of energy to the track! I found myself whistling along to this one is no time at all, the vocals are sooooo catchy! It also has alternate beat cymbals, which makes the track feel really fast. There are some wicked sweeping effects and an awesome snare roll that leads into the break.
The "Extended Mix" has a 16/4 synth loop underlay which is used between the mini breaks, giving the mix a trancier feel. Extra vocals have been overlaid, with the DJ shouting out to the crowd; that, on top of the low end buzzing effect which builds during the break, really takes the roof off when the bass is slammed back in! Awesome! A brief sampled glockenspiel riff finishes the track off perfectly!
On the flip, we find the "Clubstar UK Mix". This mix has a hard thumping bass line over some interesting staccato arpeggiated synth riffs, which are extremely uplifting. The whole track feels slightly slower, with the vocals remixed into the arrangement very well indeed. An extra resonating synth rhythm underlay is added during the main verse of the track, and continues throughout, giving a slightly chilled out, mellow feeling to the mix. Nice.
Onto the second part of this 12" feast, we have the "Starsplash Mix". This has a hard stabbing bass line, a high end off-beat monotone synth loop and a low shifting rhythm underneath. The break has a very dramatic piano riff, and the main vocal chorus has been interlaced with the drum 'n' bass style arrangement.
Next up is the "Jay Frog Mix", providing a good hard bass line, a low end alternate beat synth loop, and some extremely low frequency moments towards the break, giving the dance floor a good 'ol rumble!! The break has deep phasing synths, mixed with the vocals and a climbing synth riff. My only criticism of this mix is that it ends rather abruptly.
Finally, on the flip of the second vinyl we have the "D-Bop UK Mix". This starts off with a synth loop based on the chorus keys, which is about the only interesting thing going for it really. This track feels way too slow and needs a +8 on the pitch. The vocals are also lost in the filtered strings riff as they just aren't powerful enough.
Overall, this is an excellent track, with enough mixes to suit most crowds; I recommend every DJ get this one into their box ASAP!
