Metropolitan police have been quick to praise the actions of nightclub staff who reacted to an incident in Brixton early Monday morning (September 25th).
Trouble flared after security from the Fridge evicted a small number of men involved in a fracas inside the venue. After leaving the club the men crossed the road to Mass nightclub where their cars were parked and took out a number of weapons including what has been confirmed by police as a low calibre firearm.
After it became clear that there was a serious escalation in violence outside the club, part of the Fridge security team made the decision to leave the venue to try and calm things down.
“A clubber who could translate between Chinese and English volunteered to go with security so they could communicate with those involved,” said Chris Red from the Fridge. “Unfortunately he was hit by a stray bullet while helping them calm the situation outside the Fridge. Security brought him straight back into the club to our medical room where our in-house medic attended to him until an ambulance arrived.
“We believe we have a duty to the local area to act if we see a situation like this. As a responsible part of Brixton community we are not about to stand to one side and let innocent members of the public potentially get hurt.”
Chris was quick to stress that although weapons were involved, it was after the men left the venue. “Brixton is a creative environment where local people and clubbers from around the city and the country come together to enjoy the nights that we put on at the Fridge,” he said. “While we can control who comes in to our venue and make sure that we are a weapon-free environment, unfortunately we can’t control what happens once people hit the streets.”
“No weapons, no guns, nothing metal apart from whistles can get past our security teams on the door. We don’t allow anything in and every person entering the Fridge is subject to a standard search by a metal detector. We do everything we are required to do and more to make sure that when you are inside the Fridge you are in a completely safe environment, and will continue to do so.”
Clubbers are being encouraged to continue their support of the Fridge, which has a long and illustrious history as one of the best venues in London’s vibrant club scene. “We work hard as a team and with local authorities to make sure that our venue is one of the safest and most enjoyable experiences people can have,” said Chris. “We have an amazing run of nights lined up over the next few months and it would be a shame if people let a small minority of trouble makers ruin their plans for a good time.” Share this :: : : :
