Goldie’s Son Jailed For Murder

Reported by News Editor / Submitted 10-09-10 12:48

Jamie Price, the estranged son of drum & bass star Goldie, has been sentenced to a minimum of 21 years in jail after being found guilty of stabbing to death rival gang member Marlon Morris on the streets of Wolverhampton in 2008.

Nottingham Crown Court heard how Jamie, a member of notorious Midlands gang Firetown Crew, attacked Marlon, a one-armed handicapped member of the Pendeford Crew, stabbing him four times following a chase along Wolverhampton’s Broad Street.

Speaking about the killing immediately afterwards (when his son was still on the run) Goldie told reporters how he knew the victim’s father personally and felt ‘tormented by feelings of failure’, despite having regularly offered to support his son in recent years following a long period of estrangement.

"I sat him down and I said, 'Come and live with me, let's do this. Whatever college course you want to do, you'll do it'. I told him that I'd pay for anything he wanted to do,” said Goldie.

"But he went the other way. This child of mine had every opportunity, that's the saddest thing about this,” he added (Daily Mirror: http://bit.ly/dqEufE)

The millionaire DJ also predicted he’d have ended up in a similar predicament if he’d failed to escape the same area through DJing when still in his early 20s, suggesting he’d have almost certainly ended up a drug-using robber.

Goldie’s grim assessment matched that of his former partner in crime and brother Melvin, who speaking about their backgrounds in 2001 recalled a crime filled childhood involving routinely breaking into safes, robbing trains and running from the police.

'If Goldie had not found an artistic outlet for his energy, he would be a drug dealer now,” Melvin Price told the Birmingham Mail.

'We also used to shoplift but everyone did that,” he added, “That was a way of life in the area of Wolverhampton where we grew up.”

The continuing lawlessness of the neighbourhood was emphasized by the behaviour of Jamie Price’s fellow Firetown Crew gangster Gareth Ranger who less than two months ago was sentenced to 8 and a half years in jail for firing a gun at bouncers who tried to stop him bringing it into notorious local nightspot Tropical Harmony.

The club was also the scene of serious gang violence months earlier when two bouncers and the owner were shot and wounded by a local gang angered about being excluded. Another man was murdered and another injured in another separate shooting incident inside the club in November 2009. (BBC: http://bbc.in/dv7gTr)
