Post-colonial take over with Amaluna
Written by Tara on 14-11-17 20:48 (717 views) (1 comment)
Amaluna is the collaborative project of New Zealand-born FlibbertiGibbet and Zimbabwean Mudstompin Munkee. A multi-genre duo with an interest in the experimental evolution of music, they break the boundaries with eclectic and often unreleased tracks to drive the dancefloor to new levels. The diversity of their combined tastes unite psychedelic bass lines and glitchy melodies. Thanks to their passion for seeking out and sharing new sounds, they transmit a powerful energy from the decks to the dancefloor.

Recently signed to Free-Spirit Records, Astral Circus resident FlibbertiGibbet has been DJing since 2013. Meanwhile, her co-pilot Mudstompin Munkee is the host of her own regular radio show on Bassport FM and has played at global gatherings that include Portugal’s Freedom Festival and the UK’s Noisily Festival. Shattered Barriers promoter Abhi Trance first booked them to play back-to-back at his event in April 2017 and they enjoyed it so much that they did it again in September for Tribal Village. This confirmed they were onto something good and so Amaluna will be launched at Astral Circus on Friday 24th November at Electrowerkz in London, alongside an epic line-up hand-picked to help celebrate the birthdays of Astral Circus promoters Nikki S and FlibbertiGibbet, as well as the launch of Journey aka Jay OM’s new album, Limitless.

So with their project gaining momentum faster than they could have imagined, we thought it would be fun to set up the disco divas for this back-to-back interview. Here’s what they had to say…

10 years of shanking – Bom Shanka Music anniversary interview with Al Shanka
Written by Tara on 08-11-17 13:51 (356 views)
Founded in 2007 by Al Shanka and Richie ‘Asimilon’ Elmes, Bom Shanka Music has morphed organically into one of the underground psy scene’s highest grade labels. The Bom Shanka sound is distinctively hard, dark and driving and over the last 10 years it’s torn up dancefloors all over the globe, from the biggest international festivals like Boom and Ozora to the most hardcore underground warehouse parties. Meanwhile the Bom Shanka stable just keeps growing, with recent releases from the likes of Chris Rich, Telepathy and Parasect ensuring they stay firmly at the cutting edge.

This weekend saw the first of Bom Shanka’s 10 year birthday celebrations kick off at the Return of the Atom 10-Year Anniversary Halloween Ball at London’s Boombox Lab, where Al and Nuky played a mind-bending foot-stomping three-hour set. This was but a warm-up however for the coming weekend’s festivities, where in conjunction with Planet Shroom Productions, the label puts an epic party to celebrate 10 years of shanking: the Bom Shanka Music - 10 years anniversary at Bristol’s Trinity Centre!

Latex Zebra will need no introduction for regular visitors to HarderFaster or his friends on Facebook.

For those fresh to this gem, Daniel Nugent has been mixing multiple genres for over 20 years, he co-promoted the infamous Zoology parties, plus Alumni and Brixton Trance Underground, he has been a regular winner in the annual HarderFaster Awards and, to top it all, he achieved the smoothest three-point-return to HarderFaster, after an epic flounce!

I met up with Dan at Club 414 to talk all things club-related.

Written by Tara on 04-09-17 17:44 (1104 views)
When Marcello Baccheschi aka M-Theory aka CIMI first came to London from his native Italy 20 years ago, he soon starting making the most of the plethora of electronic music events available. However, it wasn’t until he attended the legendary Tyssen Street Studios that he first discovered the cultural phenomenon known as psychedelic trance and his life took on a whole new direction…

With his artist album Mental Amplifiers about to drop and an exclusive showcase of it at this Saturday night’s edition of Tribal Village – A Psychedelic Adventure at The Steelyard, we managed to get him out of the studio long enough to discuss music production, parties and possibly the best plan yet for world peace!

Tribal Village interview with prog pioneer Etic
Written by Tara on 15-08-17 18:58 (1234 views)
Etay Harari is Etic, one of the founding fathers of what is now commonly called progressive trance. Switching from rock to psychedelic sounds in ’99, he most certainly hasn’t looked back and has gone on to produce five albums, a shed load of collaborations and remixes and launch one of the psy scene’s most consistently top labels, Digital Nature Records, with studio wingman and collaborator Aerospace.

With the man himself making a rare London appearance at the next edition of Tribal Village – A Psychedelic Adventure on Saturday 9th September at The Steelyard, we figured this progressive pioneer deserved a well-overdue HarderFaster debut!

On an incredible Journey with the limitless Jay OM
Written by Tara on 09-05-17 18:17 (1908 views)
When we first interviewed Journey aka Jay OM on here in 2006 it was the eve of the launch of his first Free-Spirit Records release, Brahmaputra, which was of course being celebrated by an epic Implosion party, Jay’s event at the time. Nearly eleven years on, Free-Spirit has released a string of successful releases - most recently, the awesome 10 Years as Free-Spirit compilation, which rocketed straight to the top of the Beatport charts - and with Jay’s third Journey artist album Limitless due to drop any day, it shows no sign of letting up.

In the meantime, Jay has cemented his place in the international psy trance scene as one of the top DJs and producers, his high energy full-on live Journey sets only being matched by his increasing number of aliases and collaborations. One of these collabs has culminated in the recent release of Kinesioöptic with dancefloor demon Hypnocoustics, while another is with the multi-talented Bahar Cancar as part of her Bahar's Magic Soup project, with Jay also playing at the album launch party on Saturday 3rd June at Boombox Lab.

First up though is the next edition of Tribal Village - A Psychedelic Adventure in London this Saturday night at The Steelyard, which promises to be something special as Jay and Japanese psy trancer Cylon present the worldwide debut of their new project KEEWL. We managed to get Jay to take a break from his hectic touring schedule to tell us a bit about life on the road...
