Neither is the Rolex you want or the expensive clothes and shoes you buy. In reality any old watch and shoes will do! You buy them because you want the best for yourself. Now imagine having a baby/child. You want the very best for them even more than you want the best for yourself and if you see everyone else strutting around the neighbourhood with £800 prams then believe me an £800 pram is the very least you will settle for as you won't want your kid being the poor relation on the block. I had no idea how competitive and snobbery laden parenting was until I had children. In the same bed as you for the first six months? When I worked for the Department of Health we advised against this.
