Statistically you’re more likely to be abused by a friend or a member of your own family.
No amount of web groups going to prevent that shit.

Yep, and typically kids weren't believed, although I'm surprised at that now the extent of the abuse is better known and I presume parents experienced the same thing.
Most kids had Saturday and holiday jobs, I started when I was 13 and worked for two predatory bosses and knew of others.
Remember Uncle Ernie in Tommy?
It was rife, in fact given all the scandals which have surfaced, I'd say more prevalent than today.
I've never seen Tommy. Or Quadrophenia for that matter, i should remedy this.
And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those that could not hear the music -Nietzsche
With all due respect mate. My daughter is 13 and would be seen as a prime target. I know exactly what the risks are etc.
We're careful with her social media stuff. We make sure we know the friends she are meeting are real friends. Recently a girl she had got to know from Instagram ,who was from Sweden said she was coming over and wanted to meet up. What was great was that both her father and I wanted to speak to each other first and also be at the meeting place, despite both coming from different countries, our mindset for safety is the same. The girls met up, the Dad and I went for a coffee and it was all good. It just took a bit of parental effort.
Whilst I appreciate this kind of mob effort, and that is what I see it as, is clearly apprehending people. It is still the role of the parent to educate their children to what is out there. These parents giving their kids Smartphones at 6 years old are also not helping. If they're that lazy a parent they're happy for their kid to be glued to a smartphone at that age they are too lazy to likely monitor it as well. These will be the parents that eventually find out something is amiss and then get a group involved.
If I did find someone was trying to groom Kira I'd take control of the account myself, see what I could get that was incriminating and go to the police first before even considering anything else.
Much as these people are vile etc. I am not of the thinking we should be beating them up or executing them etc. No more than I do for rapists or murderers. I want stuff to be done within the law before Batman gets involved.
This exemplifies how responsible parents approach the issue.
Most important is keeping track of kids's mobile devices and their internet use, but also taking a sensible approach to kid's natural curiosity and working with other parents to ensure everyone is safe.
At one extreme there are the parents who let their kids have phones from a very early age, as you say, the lazy ones who probably plonked their kids in front of cartoons to keep them occupied. At the other end are those who forbid any internet use or having a smartphone, they have a paranoia about the risks and prevent their children from learning valuable lessons.

Indeed, but stopping one is better than stopping none. I hope you wont argue this point
Of course I wont. As I highlighted earlier I would hope that it can be done within the law.
I am not taking away from the potential good these groups can do. What I am worried about is the precedent they set. Police are understaffed. Vigilantes come in to do the work... What happens when this gets applied to other crimes. Neighborhood watch start setting up stings for would be burglars.
Perhaps it gets to a point where people just wander around looking for crimes to stop. Sure it is helping the police but shouldn't we be pressuring the Government to put more money into the police. To put better money into social services to help stop kids getting abused at home... Stopping someone from becoming a potential abuser (and creating a cycle of abuse) and then a burden on the state as someone in prison, is the best option of them all. I hope you wont argue that point.

It's about finding the balance. The kids (and parents) need the odd lazy day here and there... But still know what the fuck they're doing.

I agree with you are saying so the bottom line is the government. This will fall on their heads should it all escalate due to their constant cuts. They know about their tightness(( Tories) and are doing fuck all about it so I am all for there being a revolution. Call that childish and naive They are the root cause of a lot of issues so I for one will not be surprised if it all kicks off within the next few years. Its bound to happen
