There is a woman at work who for the last 3 years has a kid, comes back to work and gets pregnant again very quickly. She is again due to go on maternity leave and has stated that she has no desire to return to work after this child.

Should the company be paying her maternity leave if she has no intention of returning? Should she be contractually obliged to return to work as work will no doubt be paying for her leave?

BTW, I am not against maternity leave but it's clear that people put a lot of pressure on businesses by continually being out of work a year at a time.

Absolute Fact

In our situation, Penny's company has offered her a £5k maternity 'bonus' paid weekly during the 9 months of statutory. This is on the priviso she comes back to the company and works a full year otherwise she has to pay it back. Cheeky fucks! Ive told her to take the money and if she decides to not return, then they can come and chase it and set up a £20 a month pay back. Fuck em.

what we have sigend up for is splitting maternity leave so I am having Novemeber and December off with half of Jan on my holiday allowance. Cannot wait to stay at home and look after the baby. We will be overlapping times as wlel so works out perfectly.

BTW, its a risk companies have to take. It happens and with our campanies, I couldnt give a fuck if they struggle. We are already short staffed because they want to add to the bottom line by not having more staff and paying wages. They dont care about you, so why shoudl I care about them when we are well within the law.

You keep going on about her for the past several years.

I think you should complain and get her the boot, she sounds like a cunt.

The £5k and year long agreement sounds very reasonable. I don't think the girl in my office has even been back 11 months and has already been off for most of the last 3 due to her pregnancy being very difficult for her.

Sounds like you and your other half have it sussed out.

I do but it really annoys me. When she is here she does bugger all, when she "works from home" because she is too pregnant to come in she does bugger all, then she takes her annual leave even though she is never here and the goes on paid maternity.

I know not all women do this but I know this is not exclusive to just the one piss taker in my office.

Sounds like most people in the public sector though to be fair.

Wasn't there a new policy about less statutory pay for a 3rd child - or did they chicken out of implementing that?
