New girl at a local paper who quoted me £300 for my advert. I told her that last year I only paid £180 and she said "Oh OK £180 then".
Somehow I don't think she will last very long.

£180 for the whole year, with £150 cash back.

Is there proof anywhere and not conspiracy websites?

Coming from Africa, I can tell you the only 'population control' is AIDS. There are fuck loads of people so my question is, why is there loads of people in Africa, why arent they controlling the population throughout Africa or places like China/Asia?

All too fishy for me mate, I dont believe in chem trails so apart form tyrant's causing mass genocide because they are cunts, I struggle to believe this is true when my home country for eg is way over populated and numbers are rising

What I've never understood was how they manage to get pregnant & go full-term. If you're starving to death, just think anorexic sufferers, the body starts to shut down, including your fertility.
How are they giving birth? They should be given the pill & lets TRY to get a grip on the birth-rate. There's no point throwing money at the problem- it's neverending.

Karma is a beautiful thing.

USAID has been providing family planning and contraception for years:

(my father worked in health planning for 3rd world countries)

Well it was only for one edition (it's an annual event). But it does make you wonder if they make their prices up a they go along.

Assuming advertising practices haven't changed much in the past 30 odd years, I can confirm they do indeed make it up as they go along.

They'll have a published rate card which I expect says £300, then they'll have their discounted card which is how much they are expected to sell the space for, probably £180. If you catch them at the right time of the month, you'll probably get the salesperson's desperate rate, what they'll go down to in order to hit target and get their commission.

The time you get the best deals is nearing publication deadline, they don't want to waste space so they'll knock it out dirt cheap. The danger with that is timing, in previous weeks and months they can add more pages to cater for advertising demand. That gets locked down at a certain point so you may not get the spot you want or may miss out altogether.

Is it classified or display?

Classified I guess, it is in the 'What's On' section of the paper.

I do often get last minute deals from certain publications. There is a very upmarket antique paper which I occasionally advertise my bigger and London based fairs in. I have told the chap who arranges the advertising to always phone me if there is a cheap late deal. It means that I can either afford to advertise smaller fairs in the paper or publish a list of of upcoming fairs.
I recently took a huge advert, which would have been rated at a few thousand, after haggling I got it for £100.

It's good to get to know the salespeople and take the last minute deals - they'll call you with offers over others as they've dealt with you in the past and know it will go smoothly.

What they hate is when people take a deal and then faff around with copy or proofs, well not the salespeople who just want to close a deal, but the publication in general.

£100 sounds like a great deal, did you call them or did they call you?
