Why you still can't pay with your smartphone to travel the tube

Using a paper ticket on public transport is so last century. With the introduction of the Oyster card, and more recently NFC-enabled bank cards, our ways of paying for travel are fast becoming contactless.

The Internet of Things

Think of a world where many objects have integrated sensors and wireless data transmission functionality in order to improve your quality of life.

For example, the bathroom of the future may well have sensors built into your mirror and toilet. These sensors will analyse your excretions and composition of your breath in order to determine whether you're low on certain minerals / nutrients or in the process of developing a medical condition (it's now proven that it's possible to detect certain types of cancer from a patients breath). This data could then potentially be sent to your GP in real-time in order for them to take appropriate action.

Haha.

Yeah because your GP will have the time to analyse the thousands of sent bits of information from hypochondriac patients

Once again you demonstrate your complete lack of understanding.

Maybe if you understood how the technology works you'd be able to offer a valid opinion.

Check out the music productions on my Soundcloud page if you dare!

Did you read about Carphone Warehouse and Dixonx/Currys merger last week? One's a phone company, the other specialises in appliances - the internet of things is here.

Your example above is a little ahead of its time imo. The initial stuff we'll see are appliances such as toothbrushes that analyse your brushing technique and send data to your mobile phone, which will graph it and suggest improvements, etc.

Other stuff often mentioned is being able to talk to your fridge. Your fridge will be linked to the web so you can contact it on your way home and ask what's inside. You might get a text with a list of ingredients and potentially suggestions for a shopping list to complete possible recipes.

Google are basically acquiring absolutely everything as they know what's coming. They're just buying everything including fire alarm manufacturers. Google are consolidating all their offices from Central St Giles, Victoria, etc to King's Cross - and even that isn't random as they'll be as near to Central St Martin's School of Art - therefore acquiring the creativity and talent in the vicinity...

Scientists Figure Out How to Stop Batteries from Degrading

Batteries are an essential part of life, being used in both wireless and wired devices, vehicles and pretty much anything else that can run for any length of time cut off from a wall socket. Alas, they have a problem: they degrade over time.

I was reading in the paper today about this dwarf that got pickpocketed. How could anyone stoop so low?
