The show is more about what happens off the battlefield. I think that's mostly because battles are expensive to do properly, but I don't think the show suffers for it. After all, it's about the intrigue and the backstabbing and the characters are strong enough that you could do an hour-long show with just three of them locked in a room. I get that, but according to err indoors quite a bit happened that you weren't really made aware of. Apparently they changed how the young Stark girl escaped as well. There are also a fair few characters that they didn;t introduce like the frogmen kids who befriended Bran. Jon's story was a little different too. The books are deffo well worth reading.
