Label: Disco Gecko Recordings
Format: Digital
Genre: Dance / Electronica

Lets get into our time machine and go back two years to 2018. There was no corona-virus around. That was the good news but the bad news was that Donald Trump was in charge of the USA. But in the music world, Disco Gecko Recordings, home of Banco de Gaia and friends, released 20, an opus of tracks celebrating two decades of weird and wonderful sounds.

Sophie Barker, LO18, dr trippy, Radium88 and label head Banco de Gaia take centre stage, with a few remixes stuffed in between. In terms of content, 20 is a mixed bag; comprising everything from lo-slung electronica to full-on ragga, from quiet ambience to folksy electro. This is the epitome of Disco Gecko and its what makes the label so damn good.

Stand-outs for me include dr trippy's Bhang!, the amusingly whimsical Granny Takes A Trip To Hebdon and the atmospheric The Princess And The Sky Goat by Banco de Gaia. In between, there's LO18 who provides two tracks, techno wunderkind Simon Power who provides "How Proud We Are" and Drippy by Banco.

Overall, 20 is a solidly put-together little comp that should provide the listener with wonder and enlightenment...and the odd moment of dancing, or skanking if that's your thing.
