EL-EL is back! With the release of Exhibition VI, the latest in a long line of jigsaws from the legendary Lost Language, its time for Guardians Of Valhalla by Darkskye. Remixes come from Tim Bourne and Greg Murray.
The Original Mix is a tough progressive monster, a real cathedral of sound. Synthesised choirs, pounding beats and a gothic undertone set the tone here. For me, its a good starter for a lengthy, slow-building, monolith of satisfying noise.
Tim Bourne is next with his Unconditional mix. An extended edit of this mix opened the Exhibition VI album and the build is no less epic here. EL-EL are known for finding new and exciting producers and, while Bourne isn't new to me (he's had releases on Pharmacy Plus), he might be new to others. His remix here is nice and atmospheric and is a good opener for any album, let alone EL-EL's flagship series.
Greg Murray & G Coulter drop the final mix and, again, its a progressive mix. A touch more aggressive here, I think; a monster that stares out of the abyss. The choirs are filtered and chopped up slightly and the beats are more refined. The ambient synths are given more time to shine. An epic mix to say the least.
EL-EL...part of the puzzle.
