For those who might be unfamiliar with your DJing, how would
you describe the style of music you play?
My music style ranges from nice ‘n sexy deep house to

uptempo electro, it also has a lot of American influences. I

basically call it Chutney House. My style is very groovy and
up for it.

Your new USM DSO album is on the shelves. For you, what are the top 3 reasons why punters should shell out their hard
earned cash to buy your CD?
First of all it's the only house compilation released by a
P.E DJ! Then, of course, the disk features five locally
produced tracks which have to be heard to be believed,
awesome stuff. And lastly, I worked for a year on that
tracklisting and all the tracks, in my opinion, have really
cooked the dancefloors.
We have five copies of Vimo's new Deeper Sounds of Vimo CD
to giveaway, courtesy of our friends at USM Records. To put
yourself in line to win a copy e-mail steve@mrspencer.co.za
and tell us how many locally produced tracks are included in
Vimo's “Deeper Sounds Of. . .”

As a PE based DJ, how difficult is it for you to keep a
presence in the other major urban areas of SA?
It was difficult at first because of the fact that the big
clubs around the country want DJs that are well known and
not many people are clued up on the DJs from the PE scene!
But then all you need is to get a few gigs out of town and
for the right people to hear and appreciate you, then you're
sorted. I must say I'm very happy playing in the big cities,

its really awesome playing all these great party's like
Kiss, Natural Groove , etc.
If one of our Joburg or Cape Town based members headed off
to PE on holiday and was looking for a good time where would
you recommend and why?
Definitely and without a doubt. . .52 Parliament. The club
has the most insane vibe, the décor is great and the people
are very friendly. On top of that, the tunes are always
fresh and steer clear of the commercial side of things. 52
Parliament is the preferred PE club for many of the
country's top DJs and, of course, it's been my residency for
the past 3 yrs. All-in-all a great package.
Define the skills and abilities you think make up the
perfect DJ?
In my opinion the main aspect that makes a good DJ is
attitude. If a DJ has a good attitude I believe it
translates into everything they do behind the decks.
Obviously, mixing skills and tune selection are of extreme
importance, but I believe if a DJ has the wrong attitude it
will come across in his set no matter how good his (or her!)
mixing and selection are.

What was the first vinyl you ever bought?
Plane Lazy – Kickin Back. I still play it even though it is
almost a decade old!

What's your take on the vinyl versus new technology debate?
Vinyl for me is still number one 1 and it allows artists to
make money off their music. I personally play 90% on vinyl.
On the other hand there is so much local talent and most of
the time the local tunes don't get to vinyl. So, in that
respect CDs are more convenient and cost effective and
definitely play a constructive role. But I don't think I
would ever stop playing vinyl.

Who has had the biggest influence on your DJing?
Definitely Arman van Helden, simply because I was in London
and saw him play and that was when I realised I wanted to be a DJ. He is a great DJ and an amazing producer . Locally,
the biggest influence on me has been Munro who has had a
huge impact on my entire DJing career.

If you could change one thing about the local clubbing /
DJing industry, what would it be and why?
To be quite honest I'm very happy personally with the way
the clubbing industry is back here in P.E. As far as the
rest the country I really wouldn't know.
And lastly, our traditionally arb question to finish
with.......how deep do the sounds have to be before they're
offically vimo'd?
It has to be CHUTNEY deep. That's me………
