After remixing Banco de Gaia on Disco Gecko, it was probably inevitable that Andrew Heath and the mastermind behind Banco would get round to recording a full album together. The thought of this was intriguing to me as I'm a fan of both artists. Its interesting because "Motion", the debut album from the two, only has four tracks. But they're really long. An extract of one track was included on the recent Strange-Eyed Constellations album.
Very different sounds exist on Motion. Using field recordings from out and about, the two producers weaved a seemingly endless universe of sound; mingling the worlds of electronica, ambient, chill and gentle melancholy into an impressive, and immersive, body. It is properly epic and deserves to be played in full. My fave is the 20 minute "By Fire (East)", which closes the record. Both Toby and Andrew are known for producing epic tracks so the tracks here should not surprise.
Very sweet album. Well worth looking into.
