It's not the former.
From what we can find online there is someone making an application in view of taking on the lease and then redeveloping. If the application gets refused then, if the owners don't want the lease or can't get it, it will at least deter others from trying the same thing.

Do you know who owns the freehold?

Might it be worth appealing to them directly??

Nope. I'm sure T & Louise will be doing stuff. I think that kind of stuff is best left to them and we supply the public outrage. The petition someone started is at around 700 names now in just over a day.

Even if you dislike the 414 do you want to see another venue shut down for property development?

I think it is fair to say that everyone on the Internet is annoying.

If people don't like it fair enough. Not sure why anyone would be happy if it closed down though.

Let's not keep focussing on the nay-sayers, there are far fewer these days and I think most of us know when to keep quiet...

Working for the council I know that an application like this isn't a done deal. I've seen applications tabled by an authority themselves crumble under the power of public objections.
The good thing about Planning is it is all public domain so getting info is relatively easy in some respects.
Whilst I am obviously very concerned I know that T & Louise will fight like hell to keep their home and their club. If those that even remotely give a shit help then the weight of numbers is something it will be hard for the authority to ignore.

Cool, I presumed it would be an uphill struggle if the freeholder and council wanted the change.

How interested will the authority be in comments from people who don't live in the area?

I was never a fan of the 414 but that isn't the point.
There seems to be an alarming number of venues right across that are shutting down and being redeveloped. It isn't just music venues, it is also happening to minor art galleries and museums.
Slowly the old soul of our capital is being eroded. Like it or not the 414 has been an important part of night time culture in Brixton.

There's also a substantial number of new venues opening every week with markedly better quality.

Just because people are sentimental about a place closing down for property development doesn't make it the end of the world.

On the contrary, the whole point is the place probably needed redeveloping anyway.

Yep, I was right. Market Row are the freeholders, although it's mortgaged:

Title Number : SGL472988
Address of Property : 414-416 Coldharbour Lane, London (SW9 8LF)
Price Stated : Not Available
Registered Owner(s) : MARKET ROW LIMITED (Co. Regn. No. 2229018) of 24 Bruton Place, London W1J 6NE.
Lender(s) : Abbey National Treasury Services Plc

And they submitted the planning application.

So that's goodbye 414 then.

No chance fighting that.
