» Flaming June (Paul Oakenfold Remix)

Reviewed by Pete M / Submitted 02-05-23 15:16

Label: Perfecto Records
Format: Digital
Genre: Trance

Flaming June is a track that never dies, it seems. With a myriad of remixes from the likes of Ashley Wallbridge, Paul van Dyk, BT himself and Jaytech & James Grant, its time for the track to come home to its parent label, Perfecto, with a remix from Paul Oakenfold.

Whether Flaming June deserves yet another remix is up for debate because, well, the track is legendary. In fact, the original BT & PvD mix, which is 11 minutes long, is still the jewel in its majestic crown. Oakey tries to inject some tech into proceedings and, while admirable, sadly doesn't quite work.

While I adore Flaming June and some of its remixes, including the Laptop Symphony rework by the man himself, its difficult for a lot of remixes of bonafide classics to reach the stellar heights that the original mixes hit. And this mix is, sadly, a prime example. That's not to say that this remix isn't good. It is but it lacks the power of the original and the emotion. Or maybe I'm just missing something. Maybe it'll grow on me.
