ManMadeMan

» Emotional Software

As I reviewed Theophany by ManMadeMan, the reissue, it occured to me to review the 2021 Emotional Software album which was their actual new album. While this one isn't far off what Theophany was, there are a few differences.

Emotional Software does continue the ambient side of ManMadeMan's sound but injects it with more benign beat sections. Think lo-slung psychedelics with smooth laid-back structures littered about. Disco Gecko, the home of Banco de Gaia and friends, is well known for weird and wonderful music and Emotional Software is no exception.

Where the album shines is the continuation, and evolution, of ManMadeMan's psychedelic sound. Yes, they are titans of psytrance but this album evolves that and captures the downtempo edge as well while still maintaining the balance between midtempo beats and luscious sounds. Its familiar, yet unfamiliar and that makes Emotional Software a good addition to the ManMadeMan arsenal. An ample treasure of aural sonics.
