Let me hear you say Waio
Written by Nikki S on 23-04-17 19:11 (8292 views)
With an artistic drive to create music encoded into his DNA, the half-Brazilian, half-Portuguese Fernando Seca exploded onto the psy trance scene in 2008 as Waio with over 200,000 plays on MySpace and reaching No. 5 in the Beatport charts. Following a succession of massive tracks over the past 10 years, Waio has since firmly established himself as one of the world’s leading psychedelic trance acts.

In between all of the jet-setting, tearing up dance floors at the biggest festivals on the planet, and just ahead of becoming a father for the second time, we caught up with Fernando ahead of his forthcoming performance at one of London’s most iconic venues, Troxy, with Infected Mushroom on Friday 28th of April.

In the run up to Knowwhere’s big reunion party, in collaboration with Planet Angel on Friday 9th June, we caught up with the Knowwhere promoters from back in the day - Pablo, Anthony Dean and Stevie - to take them back to where it all started.

For those of you who may not have been around in those early days, we thought you might like to know where ‘Knowwhere’ came from. The three amigos promise these ‘recollections’ are as accurate as time and other factors allow!

Shattered Barriers presents... the one and only Rinkadink
Written by Tara on 03-04-17 21:12 (7998 views)
Surely one of the most high-energy artists on the scene, South African-born Spanish resident Werner van Jaarsveld aka Rinakink started DJing in his mid-teens and was playing at parties in Cape Town at the tender age of 15. However it wasn’t until he saw Hallucinogen and Etnica play in the late ’90s that he first got inspired to start making music of his own. At the time he’d been DJing drum ‘n’ bass and happy hardcore and didn’t even particularly like trance, but the energy of the crowd blew him away and he caught the psy trance bug.

Since then he’s gone on a global mission to seek out dancefloors to test his tunes on and fully embraced the digital age, releasing his own tracks and promoting them via his FaceBook and Soundcloud pages. At the same time, his production just keeps getting better and better – no doubt partly due to his ongoing dedication in the studio.

With the man himself making a rare London appearance at Shattered Barriers this Saturday 8th April at Boombox Lab alongside Burn in Noise, Vertical Mode, Michele Adamson and AGENDA (Shane Gobi’s new live act) and a plethora of local talent that includes Nikki S, Bahar Canca, Neill Moore b2b Lauren Lyon, FlibbertiGibbet b2b Mudstompin Munkee and many more, we managed to get him to take some time out from his hectic international gig schedule to answer a few questions for his HaFa fans...

Spun Out on Bahar’s Magic Soup
Written by Tara on 26-03-17 17:56 (7408 views) (1 comment)
When Bahar Canca first came to London from her native Turkey to study film in the mid-’90s, she could never have imaged how music would change her life. Falling hard for the UK dance scene, she quickly progressed from playing at home to house parties and bars and soon had a residency at underground night Rude Not 2, which lasted an epic 10 years. At the same time, she was getting more and more addicted to the incredible vibe and energy of the psychedelic trance scene, initially leading to bookings at the alternative stage of festivals like Glade and Sonica. But this rising star couldn’t be kept away from the main stage for long and it was only a matter of time before she was playing the kind of psy trance that she loved to party to.

In true Bahar style she embarked on building a studio in her back garden, where her first tracks were started. Ten years on, her EP Spun Out has just bounced straight into the No. 2 psy trance releases slot on Beatport and she is now collaborating in the studio with some of her most favourite producers to create her forthcoming album, Bahar’s Magic Soup. With the album launch party looming in June and a series of gigs at some of London’s top events over the next few weeks including The Elixir of Life & Iono Records Sonica Gaia pre-party, Shattered Barriers and Dreamscapes, we finally managed to interview London’s psychedelic party princess…

It’s that time again and the results are in after HarderFaster asked you to look back and tell us who, what, when and where made the grade in 2016, whether that be for good or bad reasons

At your suggestion, we added a new poll category – Jaw Drop Thread – and the winner won’t come as any surprise.

Our free-text voting system means you can enter whatever you want and we always look forward to your wit and wisdom. In keeping with tradition, we were delighted to see Josie making a comeback for best festival.

As we’ve said in the past, the diverse votes continue to reveal your eclectic tastes so we’ll continue to award top honours to those who were clearly in the lead and honourable mentions to those who were near the top or where there are no clear winners.

Fancy a bit of Custard at Trance Sanctuary's 6th Birthday?
Written by Miles Gorfy on 27-02-17 13:35 (6734 views)
Custard is a name I’ve known on the scene for many years, from his involvement with Planet Angel and his tracks on Discover Records. I first worked with him a couple of years ago at the Chilled in a Field festival where we both played the main stage and I got to see first-hand what an excellent DJ and lovely fellow he is.

It was a pleasure to catch up with Paul 'Custard' Mayes again, before we share the same stage in the HarderFaster 140+ Room at Trance Sanctuary’s 6th birthday on March 18th, and I dug through the skin of this creamy dessert to find out what makes him beat.

Written by Tara on 29-11-16 18:48 (5538 views)
The last time we interviewed Peter Welgemoed aka Groove System AKA Zeus for HarderFaster was ahead of the Roots and Chichime Birthday Celebrations at Mass almost bang on six years ago. Six years on, Roots is back in south London for the Roots 11th Birthday at The Flying Dutchman - which with headliners like Aphid Moon, Oberon, Journey, Imry, LukedB, Simon Piemon and Sutekh might just be the perfect afterparty for this Saturday night's HarderFaster Christmas Party. With so much to catch up on, it was high time we had a chat with this veteran of the London scene… [Full Story]
