I had this discussion with Furface several times over the years, most notable when we came out of watching The Dark Knight Rises and he was in a full-flow rant about how absolutely unbelievable part x of the film had been (I can't even remember exactly what it was but it was a relatively mundane part of the plotline).

After about 15 minutes I gently pointed out that a) he'd been watching a film about a comic book hero that dressed as a giant bat and that b) of all the things he could be ranting about as 'unbelievable' he'd focused on the most mundane fact and "that's the part you're finding hard to believe??"

It's always made me chortle when folks bang on about how unrealistic these things are, for the very points you've raised.
