Joining the ranks of the remix album is Ollopa, the companion album to Apollo, Banco de Gaia's 2013 opus. This edition was released in the same year and is the Apollo album in remixed form. When you buy the album, or get it or whatever, you'll notice that the cover is now night and the album is back to front i.e. the last track is now the first etc, etc. Anyway...
Remixes of Banco's Apollo come from Desert Dwellers, Tripswitch, Eat Static and Banco himself, who provides a Huff & Puff mix of Eternal Sunshine. Eat Static provides a bonkers psy-funk mix of Wimble Toot and the aforementioned Dwellers of the desert re-rub All Sleeping. Techno duo System 7 do a suitably chilled mix of For Such A Time and Gaudi beefs up Lamentations.
On the subject of the remixes, Eat Static moves in and provides a Balkan-inspired mix that nods along at a leisure pace. Desert Dwellers take on the quiet ambience of All Sleeping; injecting some glitches into proceedings. System 7, meanwhile, jazz up For Such A Time in a manner that enhances the track; replacing the rock edge with a chilled one.
On the face of it, Ollopa is a strange album with lots of varying remixes on it but it is a worthwhile purchase, even if you don't have Apollo or any of Banco's other albums. Cool!
