Nu Energy Collective returns! The hardcore veteran Kevin Energy's label has been releasing some classic tracks over the years, along with remixes, but now the front-man unveils his artist album, Universal Energy. This is a mammoth affair; spanning 27 tracks and two DJ mixes. I am, however, concentrating on the single tracks. That's 17 hardcore/freeform singles and 10 drum & bass mixes of those singles. I also forgot to mention that the majority of the tracks are with Jasmine Knight. Sorry, Jasmine! :O
This album is heavy! Filled with relentless hardcore. There are three versions of the title track: the intro mix, the original mix and the deebee mix. For me, its the Intro Mix that is favourite as that can be used to open a DJ set or a compilation for the gym or a forthcoming Halloween party for some serious carpet-shedding. Elsewhere on the album, K-Complex enters the fray with "Deep Inside".
What's also good about the singles is that they're all pretty long and not just, ya know, 4 or 5 minutes. They go beyond six minutes, which I like. There are no edits here. There's also a Kevin Energy remix of Stone Cold Killer by Supernature, which is a nice bonus.
On to the second disc and its 10 tracks from the first disc but in deebee form. Its good to hear them like this cos it means they can be played in drum & bass sets. I like this album as a whole. Some proper belters on here.
