We are back with the latest instalment from the world of Funk and Soul. Craig Charles (BBC 6 Music) will be gracing Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes doors for Funk and Bowl again for another instalment of funk, soul, jazz and a whole lot more! Celebrating the prominent, rhythmic, feet moving grooves of funk, the deep, catchy sounds of soul and melodic, swinging jazz this line-up will have you dancing from start to finish. Craig will be joined by the incredible London Afrobeat Collective, a 12 piece groove explosion who are certainly not to be missed. If this was not enough then we will be joined by some of London’s finest Funk and Soul DJ’s: Sir Funk, Jazzwax, DJ Haze, Jimmy James & Otis Waby – who will be keeping the dance floor shacking until the early hours.
We are happy to have famed actor and presenter Craig Charles join us again after the great success of his Funk & Bowl sessions in February. Along with being known for his memorable characters on some of Britain’s best loved shows Craig has a deep interest and passion for music and since 2003 this has been broadcast for the entire nation in his Radio 6 show; The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show. Craig is dedicated to promoting the very best in funk and soul from the roots of black music through to the current club sounds, featuring classic tracks, new releases, sessions and interviews. Craig also takes this love of music live up and down the country with his own live band; The Eye and of course his in demand DJ sets that he will be bringing to Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes. Expect to hear some absolute funk and soul classics mixed with fresh new material that will keep you moving all night.
The London Afrobeat Collective will be on support duties with there incredible and groove driven some sound. There unique, fresh take on the Afro-Funk soun with the dance floor eruption it consistently creates has won this 12 piece not only a devoted fan base and critical acclaim, but also a number of influential admirers — most notably Fela Kuti's own keyboard genius and Egypt 80 band leader, Dele Sosimi, who has shared the stage with the band on a number of occasions.
2010 saw the band taking their raw, explosive sound into the studio to record their debut album, which involved extensive collaboration with some of afrobeat's finest singers, including the celebrated Inemo Samiama, Dele Sosimi and Wale Ojo. Adding to the behemoth line up with the raw soulful vocal talents of Sabina Challenger and with some great shows already lined up, 2011 is shaping up to be a monster of a year for L.A.C.
If these two names weren’t enough we also have Sir Funk, Jazz Wax and DJ Haze, Jimmy James and Otis Waby putting their own stamp on proceedings with some more grooves to delight the ears of all our party goers. Blend all this auditory entertainment with a unique venue that includes bowling, karaoke, a cinema screen and of course a well stocked bar then all the ingredients are in place for a top rate night of funky, soulful partying.
