It's a by-product of free market capitalism (poverty) and the US seems to have more than it's fair share. If the wealth was shared around there would be no rich elite to look down on us and that wouldn't do.

There's also a massive amount who can see past the crap and realise it'll help their society out.

I put a thread up on a localised US forum, and I'd say 90% of the posters agreed that "free" healthcare for the masses was a good thing.

The other 10% were the kind of people who, well, came across as either sheeple, a bit uneducated, or greedily rich.
