Ben Alonzi - A Real Passion for Futurity

Reported by Barry Moore / Submitted 03-08-11 07:25

Leicester's Ben Alonzi is a DJ and producer taking the international trance scene by storm with his euphoric trance productions and energetic DJ sets. Having already played alongside some of the world’s biggest DJs such as Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, Ian Betts, Dave Pearce, JFK and Genix at events across the UK clubbing scene including Passion, Friendz, Fixation, Xstatic and Massive, you're sure to see the rising star and Nu Communicate Recordings label owner hit the decks at many more parties both here and abroad.

How long have been into electronic music and producing your own music?

I have been into the uplifting style of electronic music for around 12 years now and been producing for around 7 years. The music just seems to be getting bigger and better.

What other musical genres do you listen to and have they had any influence on your overall sound/current sound?

I listen to all sounds of music. If it has something catchy like a great melody, a thumping beat or even a nice well produced production to listen to, that suits me down to the ground. Music has a great influence on you as an individual. On a day to day bases, how you feel will always show on what music or album you listen to on that day. Music always influences me, there’s nothing better than cranking that volume up! You don’t want to hear a track, you want to feel it too!

What would you describe your sound as and is there anything that distinguishes it from when your first started?

My sound is always on the level for pure uplifting styles of euphoric trance. I can’t even explain in words why I just simply “LOVE It”! From my earlier days on the music scene, I’ve always been all for uplifting styles. Anything that gives you that 'hands in the air' feeling then that suits me.

What software do you use for your productions and what’s your view on it?

I tend to use FL Studio, but there are also many ranges of software you can use like Cubase, Reason etc. All software offers different sounds so they all have their pros and cons when coming to producing. Most of all though, there’s nothing better when you produce a great catchy melody. I always feel that’s the key to a successful production.

The vocal arrangement on your track ‘Endever’ with Emdee reminds me of trance at the end of the nineties. Superb track! What has been the general reaction on it?

Endever had great support, in some of my productions when collaborating with others, I always like to try and bring back the old style of sounds. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the new generation but sometimes them old sounds well never be forgotten. I believe that’s why followers of trance always have a special place in their hearts for classics.

You have a monthly Podcast with Jamie Harrison. Tell us a bit about that?

Yes, me and Jamie teamed up a while back. Jamie is a fantastic person to work with, a young lad with a dream, a passion and a pure talent for music. Jamie has just been signed to Paul Oakenfold’s Label Perfecto. I’ve a lot of time for jamie and will support him as much as I can in order to push the rising talents of the future.

We were teamed up once on an event for the mighty 'Passion' in Coalville a while ago now, we just seemed to bounce off each other and most of all have a laugh with the crowds that come to support us. Our pictures on our web sites show we have no shame in making complete prats of ourselves as we as always try to entertain and most of all have a good time on any event we are on. If you’ve not been to see us play live then I suggest it’s something you must do when at Passion and Nu Passion events.

You are part of the Nu Communicate Recordings label. How are things going for them and yourself at the moment?

Being the owner of Nu Communicate Recordings has been fantastic. There are so many rising talents at the moment pushing through the ranks with their productions; it’s great to be part of trying to push through the rising talents of the dance music industry. The label is growing bigger and better. I have now just launched Nu Communicate White, which my label manager Glynn Allen is now taking care of. Nu Communicate White specifically targets established and up and coming artists for Tech and Progressive Trance. For more information on the label please visit www.nucommunicaterecordings.com

You are based in Leicester which is close to the home of the midlands clubbing institution ‘Passion’. What has been your favourite night at Passion and why?

Every night at passion is fantastic. I can never say which night has been my favourite to be honest as all nights down at the club blow you away. We have the biggest names within the scene of dance music perform at Passion, clubbers never go home disappointed.

On the 6th of August you’re heading down to London to play at Futurity’s second event. What kind of set can we expect to hear and what are your thoughts about playing in the capital again?

It’s always a pleasure to be invited back down for a London event as they never fail to disappoint. As always my sets tend to consist of pure uplifting euphoric trance with a real driving edge, pushing for the hands in the air experience. Throughout the course I’m sure I’ll tend to drop in some pure elegant vocal productions followed by a wild card track which always tends to be the one you’ll either love it or you’ll hate. I look forward to seeing you all soon for Futurity’s event and as always will never fail to disappoint a good party clubbing event.

Thank you all so much for your support throughout the years and I’ll sese you soon for the Futurity experience.

Many thanks Ben for talking the time out to speak with us and we look forward to hearing you at Futurity.
