I actually read his biography before really listening to his music. That book nearly f****d me up and actually made me properly gag in a couple of places. Some of his lyrics are outstanding though and I reckon people would laud him more if it wasn't set against such "angry" rock music.
Edit - I was aware of some of his music and who he was before reading the book. But not much.
