Ready for the TOXIK launch party? Let’s ask Ed Real if he is!

Reported by clubchick / Submitted 08-09-04 11:37

Ed Real – what a RIOT. A quote I read from him once said ‘A weekend wasted is never a wasted weekend’, what a brilliant line. After seeing him perform last year in Sydney I was pretty blown away by his set. At the time, I did reviews for an Aussie dance website and was totally impressed with Ed Real’s set! I can see why the TOXIK team want ED to be part of the launch party in October. I feel that ED really knows how to have fun on stage, but also has a magical stage presence. So when the TOXIK team asked me to interview the man himself, Ed Real, well, I couldn’t say NO. Wink

The new promotion TOXIK will have their launch party on the 15th October at Heaven. This party will be like no other, with over 20 of the most amazing artists, including 6 headliners and 3 Live PA's! TOXIK will provide the very best in hard trance, hard house, funky & much more!

This Spectacular show is being put together by the unbeatable duo, HouseGuy & HouseChick, aka Guy & Lee-Ann Schmidt. ED REAL will be playing in Arena 1 with many other great performances and I’m sure he’ll do his best to make this an unforgettable party as will the other DJ’s! Razz

Q: Hi Ed, thanks for taking time out to answer questions. TOXIK sounds like an interesting party, are you looking forward to playing at a new event?
A: I always look forward to supporting new energetic and enthusiastic promoters as you are the reason dance music is still amazing after 15 years.

Q: What makes you stand out from the other DJ’s on the hard dance scene today?
A: I’m a better DJ ;-)

Q: Aswell as being a DJ, Producer, and Promoter, I imagine you’re a busy man. But can you tell us a bit about RIOT Recordings and how it all going?
A: The label looks as though it has a great future ahead of it. Our first release has sold out at the distributor and is selling well on MP3 on www.trackitdown.net BK has also just signed a deal to mix the next Extreme Euphoria album and loads of new material from our label is going to be on there. If you want a sneak preview then check it out at the end of Sept!

Q: As a DJ, do you enjoy the fame that goes with it?
A: I would call it notoriety in my case! hahaha

Q: Do you have any tips you can give to up and coming DJ’s or even for the pure beginner like myself?
A: From a business POV you need to make records to get ahead. From a fun POV, just enjoy it but be aware that once you learn to mix clubbing will never be the same again… gone will be the innocence and you’ll be a DJ critic like the rest of us – it’s impossible not to listen to the mixes!

Q: As I said earlier, I had a fantastic night at the Gas Club in Sydney last year. I saw you and Dave Randall, [Dave, a fab DJ and a great guy]play an awesome set. Do you enjoy playing in Oz, do you find the clubbers differ from the UK clubbers?
A: Oz is brilliant – the clubbers are great to play to and I find that I have the chance to mix it up and play tunes that I don’t get to play in the UK as everyone’s more up for the party vibes. I love it

Q: What has been the biggest influence with regards to your music and your life?
A: The collective experience of being in a club with 100’s or 1000’s of like-minded people is the reason I do this week in week out.

Q: Can you name two of your all time favourite tunes (don’t have to be HardHouse)?
A: KLF ‘What Time Is Love?’ / Shamen ‘Ebeneezor Goode’ ;-)

Q: I’m sure you’ve worked with everyone under the sun, but is there anyone you’d still most like to work with and why?
A: Carl Cox is the godfather of the UK scene and it’d be mad to work in some way with him…

Q: When I’m fed up I put on the headphones and blast my music from here to kingdom come, what do you do to beat the stresses of life?
A: Go out raving until it starts to hurt!

Q: What comes first, Djing, Producing or Promoting?
A: All three are important and I couldn’t imagine not dabbling in all three.

Q: What’s your attitude to life?
A: Carpe Diem

Q: Do you have a favourite DJ out there at the moment?
A: Not really… I see DJ’s most weekends who impress me but the same DJ can play a bum set the next time you see them.

Q: And finally, do you have any tricks or surprises planned for the TOXIK launch? You can tell me? I can keep a secret! Promise!Suspicious
A: I’m learning to breathe fire…

Again, thanks Ed. Hope to see you in Heaven on the 15th October for the newest party in town – TOXIK

Keep it REAL!

If you want to catch Ed Real play with many more great DJ's, get down to HEAVEN, for the spectacular TOXIK party on 15th October 2004!

Thanks so much to Dori for the fab pictures!
