I was happy about everything being fine with building regs signing off the changes to the house until she made me unhappy by telling me i need to replace 4 doors with fire standard glass ones. :/
And then the gate fell off.
Which doors? New ones or previous doors? Surely they can't MAKE you replace old doors. And if they are new, then surely the contractor is liable for that and should do it for free.

Previous doors which are period to the property, apparently we have to replace them as a result of getting a top floor put in, which is news to us, that was the reason we put alarms in every room. Yay, time to find more money.

That's how they operate, as soon as you do anything to your house they want to impose up to date regs and guidelines across the board.
We applied for planning permission for a single storey extension, they wanted us to remove our existing gates and access to the (convenient) road and move the drive to the front of the house, paving over our lovely front garden. The architect said they were trying it on; they relented when he asked what connection or impact one had on the other.

(sorry but @ the gate falling off!)
Damn right, what does a driveway have to do with anything!? it may be worth arguing the case in light of that.
Yeah, it was when she opened it, shame it didn't land on her.
