When Creating A Thread
It’s always important when providing feedback that the reviewer has some kind of idea at what you are aiming for with the track and what stage you are at with it. This allows the reviewer to be more precise and provide feedback and suggestions which are best suited to help you move forward with your production. We would therefore suggest you take a few minutes to let us know what you are aiming for and whether we are listening to a final production, a first draft or simply a working sample.
You may have noticed that from now, whenever you create a new thread within the Production Feedback Forum, we now provide poll options which can be found at the bottom of the screen. We recommend that you elect to add a PRODUCTION POLL to your thread. Choosing this option will now automatically attach a poll with 3 categories, each containing a scoring system ranging from 1-10. (These 3 categories are detailed within the Providing feedback guide below)
However, for complete user control we do provide the option to create your own poll should you be looking for feedback in specific areas or wish to exclude certain categories from the feedback options. For example, you may only be posting a working sample and as such do not wish for arrangement to be included within the poll.
This has been designed so that clearer and more accurate feedback can be given and derived on those all important aspects of music production. This new feature will also provide a quicker and easy alternative to those who may not have the time to give full written responses to your productions.
Providing Feedback
Feedback from a third party perspective is invaluable to all producers; no matter how long or how accomplished they are with their productions.
Threads within the Production Feedback Forum may have a poll attached with the standard 3 categories, each containing a scoring system ranging from 1-10 (1 being the lowest & 10 being the highest). However, please note we allow the user the option to create their own poll should they be looking for feedback on areas outside the 3 standard categories provided.
This has been designed so that clearer and more accurate feedback can be given and derived on those all important aspects of music production. This new feature will also provide a quicker and easy alternative to those of you who may not have the time give full written responses to your productions.
For those of you who do like to provide written feedback, we would suggest you use the Poll categories provided as a starting guide to ensure that the important aspects are covered in your feedback.
The 3 categories are as follows;
Production – Production covers the majority of the feedback and should take into account everything from levels, the stereo field, layers/elements, EQ’ing right through to mastering.
Arrangement – Arrangement is pretty self explanatory, the journey of the track from start to finish. Does everything stop and start at the right time, are the elements that make the track build at the right time there etc.
Originality – It’s not often that someone creates a truly original track which has never been heard before so in this category we suggest you look for elements which the producer has looked to incorporate their personality on a track or taken influence from other genres to create a production that’s that little bit different from the norm.
The scoring system will automatically be set to 5 but take a moment to consider what stage the producer is at with their productions. A producer may post a working file so therefore may not have started with the arrangement of the track for example.
The feedback forum will host a mix of different producers from newbie’s to accomplished producers who all posses different levels of skills. Please take this into consideration when providing feedback. Finally, please be considerate when providing feedback and remember that this forum is designed to help producers, therefore please be CONSTRUCTIVE with your feedback. You may not personally enjoy the track or its genre but this does not mean feedback on production areas cannot be provided.
