As you'll probably remember, HF signed up with a commercial advertiser a few years ago and in order that they can serve more relevant ads they'd like to find out a bit more about our interests and browsing habits.

This seems as good a place as any... and I may have asked this before.
Is there any way of programming the ads so that they open in a new window instead of going to the site involved?

Hm. I guess the way around it is to right click, new tab, etc. Such hard work though

PS. That google page hasn't changed in almost 10 years, do we really expect ads to open in the same window?
Website owners certainly don't, they lose a visitor and unless they've implemented Facebook style "You haven't finished your comment yet. Do you want to leave without finishing?" users can lose their work.
