Erm, you all realise that an SSD is about 6-8 times slower than a hard disk don't ya?

On netbooks, The only time you'll need speedy real time access to large chuncks of disk is when you're watching videos or listening to music - both of which SSD is more than fast enough.

Most of the time you'll be randomly accessing small chunks of data - something SSDs are quicker than HDDs at

No they ain't. Even the slowest ones are about as fast as a HDD for OS work. Plus they're shock resistant and use less power. Win.

Can't help you with if it's any good or not - but the MSI Wind is sold for much cheaper in PC World where it's rebranded as an Advent Smile

Whats even more ridiculous is it was cheaper for me to buy it there, than from Taiwan at the launch (when things are usually cheaper!)

Plus pretty much all netbooks come with SD slots and 8GB SD cards cost about as much as food poisening does down Brick Lane.

Great phrase! Laughs out loud

In this case I'd have to disagree seeing as MSI Winds are pretty good machines.

I don't quite understand why they did it though, why someone would get the MSI branded over the Advent when it's exactly the same machine ....

For what it's worth - I've got an Eee 901-X, the SSD is VERY slow, copying images over takes ages (and thats from the inbuilt card reader).

I think in the UK you have the "go" model? If so, that has built in 3.5g (or you only have 3g here?) which I really wish mine had.

Saying that though, I love it to pieces - fits in a little rucksack and I can easily cart it around without worrying a HDD will get damaged Smile
