There is some truth to this. My wife works in mental health and she says that pedophiles are the hardest to work with.
Because A they don't think they're doing anything wrong and B... They're crafty as fuck.
The lines get blurred as well. To us, I imagine we're thinking about people that are grabbing kids, usually young and abusing them.
Is a 17 year old who slept with a 15 year old, consensually, who perhaps lied about their age (or didn't). Are they a paedo?
I know so many people who say they lost their virginity at the age of 13-14... Sometimes to older people... Are they victims... They don't seem too unhappy about it.
As for nonce hunters. Honestly don't know enough.
I'm all for the public helping out to lure them out. Coordinated efforts between teenagers, web savvy people and the police to hit the right websites and groups. But the police should be doing all arrest and contact. If a gang of vigilantes turn up to apprehend someone it will just end up ending badly eventually.

Yeah bro, they come across crafty as hell. They say anything they can to get out of it but these hunters are so prepared with evidence that they eventually just admit they want to fuck children.
Totally see you point but the hunters decoy pages basically say "im 12/13/14 years old" and at that point, the person who is speaking to them should back off, not carry on. They end up sending dick picks and grooming a child. Im pretty sure most people who lose their viginity at a young age, probably knew the person they were sleeping with. Im sure a lot of them werent groomed online and taken advantage of which is a huge difference.
Dude, they are amazing. The way they get the decoys set up, interaction and chat are are so well done that the courts literally cannot throw the cases out of court. Im not sure I am allowed to link the best ones to watch but honestly, its very professionally set up and more and more police forces around the country are actually starting to say thank you for their help (see Matts stats he posted up earlier, its amazing work) its so well organised and almost to a point that its not vigilante action IMO. Police are called before the sting or during the sting, videos are taken for more proof/safety and then all the chat logs are printed off and handed to the police when they turn up. Its amazing man and now that I am a parent, I am thankful for these groups as the police are so stretched with all the cuts that they literally could not deal with this epidemic, which it is, its rife man!

It's good to see you're passionate. Now that you're a parent.
As I said, not anti these things at all. They just need to be organised properly. If catching one of these people on the web prevents a kid in the street being snatched (a lot more likely to have a bad ending than someone being sent a dick pic) then great.
Needs to be better education in schools as well. Saw numerous "Don't get a car with strangers" videos when I was a kid. 35 years ago so it's always been "rife". I recall plenty of stories of kids being flashed in the park and shit when I was a kid. The 80's version of dick pics I suppose.
These days kids are so glued to the devices you need to help them see the signs more and find ways getting chats that are starting to become dodgy monitored right away. Then someone else can take over the chat and boom.
Decoy groups are good for catching some but the crafty ones will go places they know are specifically full of kids, they'll have done their homework.
Educate the kids and the doors will be constantly shut on them.
Parents need to be aware of what their kids are doing as well. Whcih sites they're using and who they are talking to... Why are accounts being left open for strangers to get in... If my kids use anything like this then they are on full privacy and non public, you have to be their friend to actually speak to them.
