They won't sack him. There is still the fact that he has the series against India to contend. He has also said he won't resign. I am a huge fan of Cook, but his captaincy is shocking and his contributions with the bat have been f*****g disastrous. I have been following the England cricket team for a long time, and this is the worst defeat I have ever seen.

I still back him, I believe he has the grit and determination to do it, he is a very hard worker. Out of the current players he is still the best chose, if there was an obvious replacement I may feel differently.
I wish he hadn't asked for a crack down on criticism (although its not hard to see why he did) and I REALLY wish he'd drop down the order, maybe swap with Bell, to give himself a buffer zone after fielding.
I'm a bit surprised you say it's the worst defeat you've seen, I can only assume you mean in terms of the fact we should have won, or that you've simply blocked out the 90's ;-) I thought there were a lot of brilliant performances with both the bat and the ball, the batting is SO much better that it was over the winter. For a newly formed team coming off a horrible year, I thought it was a pretty promising, but yes, ultimately disappointing performance.
Edit: That said I'm not looking forward to the India games at all!!

I didn't expect England to bat for too long, but credit to Ali and Anderson for hanging on for as long as they could. It was a nail biter till the end and proves Test cricket is the ultimate sport.
The real question is how and why did Captain Cook let Sri Lanka score more than 400 runs in the second innings. 8th Wicket partnership of 140 odd runs was a slap in the face of Cook's tactics and strategy.
Odds of India beating England at home have just dropped.
Only England [and Pakistan for that matter] have a habit of making lullo players like Herath into world class performers.

This is exactly it. Shane Warne labelled his captaincy boring. I'd go further and say that it is both unimaginative and sterile. People are asking who the replacement would be. I would go for Bell, with Broad as vice captain. Cook does not have the tactical nous, and whilst people say that Bell is inexperienced, he has captained Warwickshire many times. As an alternative I think it would be worth going for Joe Root. By all accounts he has an excellent cricketing brain, and whilst some would say he was too young, I would point to Graeme Smith and remember what age he was when he was handed the captaincy.
Zem, you ask me if I remember the team of the nineties. I do, of course, but they were utterly shit. The problem with England is that they are not shit. They are actually quite good, but they are playing appallingly.
Life is far too important to be taken seriously
