Walthamstow is beginning to take over from Hackney Wick/Dalston as London's hip destination for clubbing.Krankbrother (the promoters) like to choose weird and wonderful venues and apparently they chose this one for its acoustics (which were quite crisp to my shattered ears). The production was pretty basic with red and white light beams,a strobe and a cuboid at the front which they beemed images on.
As I bought my ticket late for this event I made the mistake of getting a pre 6.30pm one to save money (you had to get in by 8.00pm anyway) this was a daytime event. It was a fairly young, studenty, cosmopolitan type of crowd (about 70% male)this is no D&B crowd so even though the set pumped up a bit at 7.00pm this is a very difficult crowd to get going. They did start to enter slowly into the spirit of things at about 8.00pm.Daniel Avery seems to play a electro house, techno type of set.I am returning to the venue in the New Year but luckily I have a later entry ticket which means I can miss the slow, slow build up dirge in the first couple of hours.
