Animat, the mysterious duo who recorded a new soundtrack for a vintage sci-fi movie, return to re-score a soundtrack for a Robert Redford movie called All Is Lost. This is the remix album, called Undercurrents. Professor Chill, Pitch Black, Darkly A M and Aayup are all on hand to provide fresh remakes of key tracks from the soundtrack.
With atmospherics being lent by the original soundtrack, this remixed EP sounds more ominous and more widescreen, with Professor Chill remixing Eight Days Earlier. Pitch Black explode on The Calm After The Storm which is, in the film at least, where the problems begin for our intrepid adventurer. I've probably spoilt the movie for you now so I'll keep quiet from now on. Anyway...
My favourite remix is Ayusp's mix of Neptune's Horses, expanded here to 9 minutes. Before this, Marconi Union fires off a mix of The Virginia Jean and Darkly A M darkens up Sea State. Unlike their previous offering, there are no remixes on the original soundtrack. Instead, it is a newly remixed and re-composed variant. Mind you, it is still a wonderfully engrossing album and this companion remix EP is well worth the add-on.
