I asked my MP to support the bill, he wrote back saying he'd be voting against, with his conscience.
I asked him to listen to the debate, with an open mind; he didn't even bother attending, busy having lunch at a neighbouring constituency.
My interest came after spending time with my father who had terminal esophageal cancer. That's a particularly nasty one as your throat constricts making swallowing difficult and ultimately impossible - he had to have stents inserted into his throat to keep it from closing up.
But he didn't want any treatment.
Time and time again he expressed his fervent desire to die at a time and place of his choosing.
We talked about Dignitas but he didn't want to travel from his home.
So the NHS kept him alive for 6+ months, at great expense.
Money which could have been used to treat people who wanted to live.
