But Italy's economy is still looking pretty dire, debt is 133% of GDP, youth unemployment is 35.7% and their banking system is perilously close to collapse. I'd say mixed: On the one hand, her position is similar to May's election fiasco - weakness will lead to further uncertainty in Germany and across the EU. On the other, Merkel needs to appeal to the electorate and appease German business so she may be open to thinking the unthinkable and trying to find innovative solutions to Brexit.
