Tristan Ingram Returns To matter To Start A Riot

Reported by Tom Cypher / Submitted 12-05-09 12:14

With countless top residencies for some of the world’s biggest club nights and a discography that’s fast garnered support from the likes of Tiesto, Judge Jules, Pete Tong and Sander van Doorn, Tristan Ingram has been described as ‘a force to be reckoned with’. Having played in some of the best venues in the world including Space, Amnesia, Pacha, and Ministry of Sound, Tristan returns to the hottest club of the moment – matter, for the first ever hard dance party held by Riot!

You’re playing at matter as part of Riots! 8th birthday celebrations, have you had a chance to play at matter before? Have you got anything special planned for your set?

I can not wait to get back and play at matter again. It’s going to be my third gig there in four months. It’s a wicked venue the sound system is so crisp! The lineup is huge and I can’t wait to spin in the Kissdafunk room. I have loads of my own new productions to play and some other hot weapons too.

It has one of the best sound systems in the world, which is going to be quite an experience! In your opinion, how much difference does the sound system make to the night?

The sound is the night. It’s all good booking great DJs but if the system is not up to scratch it ruins the night. I have played twice in the main room and the sound is amazing! I’m looking forward to playing the other room this time and it sounds chunky in there too.

One lucky DJ is being given the chance to win the opening set in the Kissdafunk room. What advice would you give the winner for this massive opportunity? What qualities do you look for in a good DJ?

Not just being able to mix but also correct music selection. If a certain style is not working then you need to adapt to the crowd and not play to yourself.

It’s going to be the first hard dance party to be held in matter, what’s your standpoint on hard dance? Which room will be partying harder Riot’s or Kissdafunk’s?

I will be playing in the Kissdafunk house room. All the Kissdafunk parties rock whether in Leeds, Ibiza or now in London - they always bring something special to the table.

Who else out of the line-up will we catch you tapping your toe too?

I always like listening to BK. He has changed his style slightly and has been adding a tech sound into his latest production work. I’m a big fan of his last track on Riot recordings called Tuff Luv which sounds wicked played at normal speed or pitched down a bit for the more housier crowd!

Where do you go for musical inspiration?

I listen to music every day at Trackitdown.net so there are always some hidden gems there plus I get sent so many promo’s you always find a couple of weapons in there too.

What’s the best and worst part of your job?

The best part I think is playing your own productions to a crowd and seeing it go right off! It gives you a great sense of satisfaction knowing that you have made the tune sitting in the studio then see it go right off in a club.

Where else and what other gigs are you looking forward to this year?

I’m heading back over to Ibiza in a few weeks after this party for the summer season. You can catch me every Tuesday at Hush San Antonio for my own night Random, I will be doing four dates at Judgement Sundays who are celebrating their 10th year as San Antonio’s busiest night. I’m also doing the third Annual Breast Cancer Research Festival at The Zoo on Tues 28th July plus playing a few one off dates at other clubs on the island.

We heard your very busy in the studio at the moment with Black Russian, are you working on anything exciting?

Myself and Black Russian (better known as Ben Keen) have been flat out in the studio this winter. We have three new fresh tracks coming out and have three remixes ready for this summer.

Can you tell us a bit about what is happening with Fakt Recordings at the moment?

Fakt Records are having a re-launch in the next few months and Black Russian and myself will be releasing our music with them. We have just finished a wicked track called Take Note which will be the first release. Then over the following months we will be releasing more bits. We will be doing tours but at the moment we’re making sure the music is right!

Can you tell us a bit about THE remix of La Roux – In For The Kill ? And your Wilson Smallwood & Ingram projects

We have let a forthcoming cheeky mix of La Roux’s – In For The Kill – Tristan Ingram & Black Russian Festival edit out of the bag. Currently picking up serious props from far and wide, including none other than Tiësto who played it to 100,000 people at the Queensday open air festival a few weeks back, Man of the moment Sander Van Doorn and Judge Jules have also been destroying dancefloors with it.

Here is DJ Tiesto playing it again at Trondheim Club 02/05/09

La Roux - In For The Kill (Tristan Ingram & Black Russian mix)

Wilson Smallwood & Ingram is of course myself, Matt Smallwood and Ali Wilson. We have signed our first track Perfect Sunrise to Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records and it’s coming out in June. It was Judge Jules’ Tried & Tested track of the week on Radio 1, voted the winner of Pete Tong’s Bedroom Bedlam competition, has been requested for Carl Cox’s Space Ibiza 2009 compilation while Space resident Jonathan Ulysses quoted it as being an Essential Terrace track. We have just finished the follow up and it’s another winner! It goes by the name of Koko and I have been playing it the last few weeks, trust me it goes right off!
