A blissful ignorance indeed. I read a piece in the Guardian yesterday about how West Yorks has become a hotbed of violent nationalism, due mainly to its post-industrial ennui and an intolerance of its large Muslim population. Given that paper's northern heritage, it's much better placed than me to understand the state of the area and yet reaches the same depressing - and obvious - conclusions as I do. Go figure.
I looked it up and read that.
There has always been resentment and mistrust of Muslims in Yorkshire. It's just how it is.

Perhaps, but this casual acceptance of its inevitability will only encourage the proliferation of extremist groups and make it easier for nutjobs like Mair to self-justify their actions, even when the victim is 'one of their own'.

Extremist groups existing will neither make it easier nor harder for a weirdo to murder somebody.

Stop talking nonsense.
That isn't what he said.

TBF, there were a lot of big words in there that may have confused him.
"Do you believe in the devil? You know, a supreme evil being dedicated to the temptation, corruption, and destruction of man?"

Of course extremist groups will propagate violence.
Just look at how many westerners have travelled to Syria after being radicalised by Daesh's slick propaganda, not to mention the guy who shot up the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

Yes he did.
"...encourage the proliferation of extremist groups and make it easier..."
Why will these groups make it easier?
He could have gone and grabbed a kitchen knife without even being aware of such groups.
You really need to read it to the end of the bit after "make it easier"...
