You just have to look at Jimmy Saville, Rolf Harris et al to know how this worked historically - people who tried to report them were disbelieved and accused of making up stories, it ruined careers and lives. It was only when we reached a critical mass of reports that things changed, sadly after Saville died so he didn't see the revulsion we felt.

I think things are far better as a result of these high-profile cases, young people know they can say no and they do. But there's still a lot of stigma surrounding this kind of behaviour and that's more likely to be evident with people who got accustomed to dealing with it over all those years when it was rare or impossible to report abusers.

I had some bad experiences when I was young (under 18), bosses making inappropriate suggestions and requests, one when I was 14 or 15. I never reported it, we all knew what they were like and we took it in our stride knowing to brush them off or say no. Since Saville I've thought about going to the police but it was a long time ago and nothing happened. Perhaps I'm complicit but that's how things were back in those days, we talked amongst ourselves and looked out for each other.

The head of Amazon films has just been suspended for ignoring rape allegations. So that backs up what you have said here.

I never had anything sexual happen but I did get a job when I was 16 and was treated really badly by the manager. Thinking back it was definitely bullying, though it never occurred to me at the time.

That isn't really the definition of victim blaming. I don't blame young girls for their naivety but I do blame those millionaire A listers who continued to work with and protect him.

I think people would believe the likes of Beckinsdale or Paltrow if they had spoken up. The fact is they kept quiet in order to protect the golden goose. How many young girls could have need spared his attentions if they had spoken up 10 years ago instead of now, when he has already been outed? They are complicit by their silence.

This is exactly victim blaming.

Maybe we have a different understanding of the term.
I am not saying that they shouldn't have put themselves in the situation or they shouldn't have dressed a certain way, that would be victim blaming IMO.

The only person at blame here is Weinstein. You are saying that his earlier victims are to blame for his later victims. They are not.

Laughs out loud claim against whom?

That's another big change over the past 20 or 30 years - people used to report things to get them addressed, these days it's all about the compensation.

For example, when I was 10 or 11 we were at the local swimming pool. They had a sliding door between the indoor and outdoor pools, I slipped on the runners and almost sliced my little toe off requiring stitches and setting so it could be saved. I don't recall any official reports or action, but some years later I asked my mother whether the pool had apologised or given us any compensation? She said no, it didn't occur to them that this would happen. The one thing is that subsequent to my "accident", the pool put rubber sheets over the runners when the doors were open - that was the result in those days.

That said, you're welcome at the Xmas party - Saturday 2nd December at Union. See you there, if you're released from Klong Prem Prison in time!

I see this as far worse than victims not coming forward, if someone makes an official report that should be recorded and investigated. I think Price has been accused of the same behaviour so I suspect he was protecting himself and others.

Thinking back to Saturday and holiday jobs, there were very few guidelines in place when we were young. I started working at 12 or 13 and was treated fairly well, sex pests excepted, although that was a few isolated incidents. The main pest used to come up behind all his staff and touch our shoulders and play with our hair. It was creepy but we shrugged it off.

People getting compensation because they witnessed an accident is fucking ridiculous.
