India's Darkskye provides the new release on EL-EL now and its an EP of techno and progressive with remixes from Peetu S. and Paul Pearson. It contains three originals and two remixes. The dark comes into the light. Lets embrace it.
The Peetu S. remix of Event 201 starts us off. This is the trance side of the EP. A jarring 4/4 beast awaits you here and it adeptly personifies the darkness of 201. It takes in Darkskye's techno original and rotates it around a hardened trance body; rather than Jean-Michel Jarre's Oxygene being reworked into an armoured behemoth by J00F. The track certainly is hard and is more akin to hard trance than normal trance.
Paul Pearson drops the proggy mix of Different World, which is followed by the original version of Event 201. The original of 201 is definitely techno and perfectly to the EL-EL blueprint: mechanised and expansive. Different World, in its original form, is a low-slung techno growler than slowly meanders its way into your soul and stays there for just shy of 8 minutes. With its low rumble as a bass-line, the track nags and nags. Nice stuff. Snakehide is the final track and is an armoured serpent; full of heavy beats and an ominous feel.
This is certainly the darkest EL-EL that I've listened to and I quite like it. There's an abundance of dark which needs to be taken into the light so it can feed and grow. Lovely stuff.
