Agreed, Bagleys security were the worst but it was SUCH a f*****g great club!

I never really saw the 'great' side of it. Layout was confusing. Sound was shit and muffled. And on the occasions when I went by the time I'd got past the door (let alone the times I got randomly pulled off the dancefloor and bundled into a fire escape thinking I was about to get robbed or beaten) and had my balls squeezed, I was having a shit time and wondering why I'd bothered.

Always had much better times in the neighbouring venues, ie The Cross, The Key, etc etc.

Yeah, Bagleys security were the worst I ever encountered. I remember getting dragged off the dancefloor and into a dark corridor and threatened by them once. They thought I was dealing but in fact had absolutely nothing, not even Percy. No apology. And had my balls groped on the way in on a couple of occasions. Other people that actually were found with stuff on them got badly beaten, in fact I know one guy who got hospitalised. And of course it was implied that whatever they confiscated they gave to their people on the dancefloor to sell on their behalf.
that kind of stressful experience meant I also gave the place a wide berth for a while as well.
They knew that the security were out of control, loads of events started writing 'new friendlier security' on their fliers, people would get there and find it was still the same firm!
Funny though because there are a few people out there who really rate Bagleys as being one of the most free n' easy, hedonistic venues ever. Maybe it was if you were from the same part of town as the doormen they were nicer to you? But anyway, I don't think I ever had a properly good night in that place, there was always something sketchy happening to ruin it.

Aye it was.

Last event I went to there after they turned it into Canvas (albeit it was still the same venue just tarted up a bit) was Seriousworld back in 2004 - https://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=5014

What a lineup it was for trance too:

Serious : Paul Van Dyk, Judge Jules, Eddie Halliwell, Scott Bond, Matt Hardwick, Simon Patterson
Dusted : Norman Jay, Shapeshifter, Trophy Twins, Rebekah, 2Funky, Rob Marmot

Took me a while to find that link as well, I guess the internet is slowly relegating the history, too.

well I think that was the problem with them to be fair, their 'attacks' were so random, you honestly had to wonder wtf was up with them. Getting pulled aside for lighting up a rollup - in the days before the smoking ban - was just odd. Even if they were trying to bust you for weed you'd think they could have done a sniff test first lol

I never had any problems with security there and I was obviously enjoying myself far too much. I was often so high when I was dancing my feet didn't touch the floor.

though i spend my time in ashes and smoke
in this whole wide world there's no happier bloke

I remember a group of us went to Bagleys one time and one of my mates brought along a work colleague who had never been clubbing or taken a swerve before.
A few hours into the night we realised that this chap wasn't with us and nobody could remember having seen him in ages. So we went on the hunt.
We eventually spotted him on the podium in the main room with a couple of glow sticks going for it like a proper old skool cheesy quaver.

+1.

Sunnysideup in Victoria did have a problem with me but understandable considering I always somehow arrived with dealers Laughs out loud Got the most thorough search one day at the door, shoes off, cigarette box destroyed, very intimate. They were confused at how I didn't have anything on me. Meantime Melanie with me walks in with 50 pills and several wraps - minimal search. Suspicious
