September Trance Chart
(artist/title/mix/label)
(1.) Michael Dow: ‘Junglist’ (original mix) – Nukleuz
Something a little bit different from rising UK star Michael Dow who’s been turning a fair few heads of late. ‘Junglist’ is a superb fusion of trance, breaks and, as you might expect from the title, b’n’b/jungle influences. Amazing stuff and it’s really nice to see something as distinctive as this out there.
(2.) Terk Dawn: ‘Barent Blue’ (Tom Colontonio remix) – Well Mixed
Fresh from his remix of ‘Time Bomb’, US producer Tom Colontonio turns in a career-best-so-far remix of Terk Dawn’s latest. Wonderfully uplifting and impossible not to like, this is just a great uplifting record that can’t fail to put smiles on faces. Fantastic stuff.
(3.) Kos Project: ‘My World’ (D-Mark remix) – Dance DP
I first heard this on one of Ferry Corsten’s “Corsten’s Countdown” shows (check them out – they’re great!) and I was immediately hooked. Barcelona native D-Mark’s on remix duty here, following up the great work he started with his recent ‘Travelling’ EP. Great pumping trance, just the way I like it.
(4.) Mike Nichol: ‘Durado’ (original mix) – Infrasonic
A truly international flavour to this month’s chart with Aussie producer Mike Nichol’s powerful, uplifting big-room trancer. I’m finding quality music like this more and more difficult to find but this is great for those late night sets where pace, power, melody and energy are everything. Very highly recommended.
(5.) Paul van Dyk & Giuseppi Ottaviani: ‘Far Away’ (original mix) – Vandit
If you were at SW4 or the incredible Brixton Academy afterparty (or indeed if you’ve caught any of PVD’s recent sets) then you can’t fail to’ve heard this which is, for me, PVD’s best production for years. Think ‘Nothing But You’ but with bags more energy.
(6.) Stuart Heasty: ‘Aventis’ (Ian Betts remix) – Couture
A very welcome return from Ian Betts as he turns in a trademark remix of Irish producer Stuart Heasty’s new track. When it comes to making pure uplifting trance, there’s very few better than Ian and that’s very much evident here as he showcases his superb production skills to great effect.
(7.) Super 8 & DJ Tab: ‘Suru’ (original mix) – Anjunabeats
I charted the Martin Roth Nu-Style remix last month but I’ve become a late convert to the wonderful original mix as well. One of the best releases on Anjuna for quite some time, this has everything an uplifting euphoric trance should, and is rightly regarded as one of the standout tracks of the summer.
(8.) Global Warming: ‘Surrender’ (Cloudchaser remix) – Inspired
Harder-edged trance courtesy of Cloudchaser who inject a healthy dose of energy into ‘Surrender’, a great euphoric trancer with vocoded vocals and an infectious lead hook. Another track for those later sets, this’ll have dancefloors rocking from beginning to end. Well worth checking out.
(9.) Oliver Smith: ‘Tomahawk’ (original mix) – Anjunabeats
Formerly one half of Anjuna stalwarts Smith & Pledger, Ollie Smith continues his solo career with ‘Tomahawk’, a great pumping trancer which features a big bassline and wonderfully dreamy break. This track is another reason why Anjunabeats are having such a great summer.
(10.) Solarsun: ‘Overjoyed’ (Hydroid remix) – Afterglow
Easily my favourite Hydroid remix to date, ‘Overjoyed’ is a nice melodic trancer with, as the name suggests, a very positive, blissed-out feel. A perfect 1am track, this’ll have the dancefloors smiling in no time and a very welcome return to form for Afterglow.
