July Trance Chart - (artist/title/remixer/label)
(artist/title/mix/label)
(1.) Primer: ‘Everlast’ (Ben Gold remix) – CDR
A sublime piece of production from rising star Ben Gold. Never a fan of the original but Ben’s rocket-fuelled remix transforms a fairly average track into an incredible pumping trancer with some amazing production tricks and some real energy. Fantastic stuff.
(2.) Filo & Peri: ‘Ordinary Moment’ (original mix) – Vandit
You know it’s summer when gorgeous vocal tracks like this one start appearing and this is something special. Heartbreakingly well-written lyrics give this a real ‘proper song’ feel and the music just works perfectly alongside Kathleen Fisher’s beautiful voice. There’s also a deeper Midnight mix which is also well worth checking out.
(3.) John O’Callaghan & Bryan Kearney: ‘Exactly’ (original mix) – Discover
It’s a great month for trance when the follow-up to my favourite track of all time is beaten into third place. ‘Exactly’ is no ‘Restricted Motion’ but it’s still better than 90% of the trance out there at the moment and leaves me wanting to hear more collaborations between O’Callaghan & Kearney sooner rather than later.
(4.) Signalrunners: ‘Corrupted’ (Edin Bosnjak remix) – Five AM
The best release for ages from Five AM has a real Discover feel to it, which is always a good thing in my book. This one’s another great vocal track and I’m loving the production skills evident in Edin Bosnjak’s remix: sleek, energetic, pumping trance at its very best.
(5.) Sean Tyas: ‘Remember’ (original mix) – Noizest
Well, it wouldn’t be a proper chart without a bit of Sean Tyas, would it? ;-) My pick for producer of 2006 comes good again with another full-on slice of tough, uplifting trance. One day this guy’ll make a bad record but I can’t see it being any time soon.
(6.) Paul Oakenfold feat. Brittany Murphy: ‘Faster Kill Pussycat’ (club mix) – Perfecto
A very welcome – and long overdue – return to form from Paul Oakenfold after some recent shockers. I’m not a fan of guitars in trance at all but this just works – and sends dancefloors absolutely crazy. Also enjoying the Nat Monday remix.
(7.) Brisky: ‘Now And Forever’ (Mystery Islands remix) – Monster
Jani Kervinan aka Mystery Islands strikes gold again with a beautiful piece of uplifting melodic trance which pushes all the right buttons for me. Loving those native-style vocals which give the track an extra edge.
(8.) Kimito Lopez pres. Black Plastic: ‘Illusions’ (original mix) – Real Music
This tough progger’s got a real classic Global Underground feel to it which makes it great for the latter part of warm-up trance sets. Haven’t heard much else from Kimito Lopez – apart from his superb rework of ‘Atomic Outbreak’ – but on the strength of this, I’d like to hear a lot more.
(9.) Mike Foyle: ‘Shipwrecked’ (John O’Callaghan vs Mike Foyle intro mix) – Armada
Good intro tracks are sometimes hard to come by and I fear this one’s now going to be played to death after appearing on the latest ASOT compilation but this wonderful understated track is perfect to start trance sets and CDs with.
(10.) Andy Bagguley: ‘Sian’ (Marcos remix) – Instant Music
Classy melodic trance from Marcos as he reworks Andy Bagguley’s ‘Sian’. Mark Dearden’s been a longtime favourite of PVD and it’s easy to see why as he turns in the latest in a line of high quality remixes here.
