A cyclist who knocked over and killed a 44-year-old woman in east London has been sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders' institution.

Charlie Alliston, then 18, was travelling on a fixed-wheel track bike with no front brakes before crashing into Kim Briggs in February last year.

He was cleared of her manslaughter, but found guilty of bodily harm by "wanton or furious driving".

Judge Wendy Thomas described Alliston as "an accident waiting to happen".

2 more pedestrians were killed by cyclists this month:

The pedestrian suffered a head injury in the crash, which happened at about 16:30 BST on Tuesday.

She was taken to a central London hospital but died in the early hours of Wednesday.

A pedestrian has died after she was struck by a cyclist during this year's RideLondon event.

The 67-year-old suffered serious head injuries when she was struck on New King's Road at the junction of Guion Road in Parsons Green.

Following the collision on 30 July, she was taken to a west London hospital. She died on Thursday.

Sounds like pedestrians need helmets and other protective gear in London Shocked

Yeah, you know how when we pedestrians swear about cyclists and get told off...? JUSTIFIED.

Btw, the guy would have got less but was a smarmy cunt who showed no remorse so the judge showed none either.

I don't know the ins and outs of each of these cases, I don't think the cyclists were arrested in the recent ones so I presume the pedestrians were jay walking and had to accept responsibility.

The judge could have jailed Alliston for 2 years for "wanton or furious driving" so she showed some leniency.

The bike of the guy who got jailed was illegal and not to be used on public roads as it had no front brake. I believe that was the crux of him being jailed.

Judge Wendy Joseph QC ordered a pre-sentence report, but made it clear she was considering a jail sentence for Alliston.

She said: "I have not seen one iota of remorse from Mr Alliston at all at any stage."

Yup, he got off lightly. But apparently they are going to use his case as precedence of some sort.

This x10000. What a horrible arsehole, did not show one sign of humility, compassion or "yeah, I killed a woman, shit" Wish he got more time TBH, purely based on his attitude. Nasty little prick!
