More: This August Bank Holiday weekend, The Gallery takes a step back in time to bring you (for one night only) the official Clockwork Orange Reunion. The London/Ibiza club night was as cult a movement as the film of the same name, and in promoters Andy Manston and Danny Gould, they had two larger than life characters who were “Aving it. Aving it right off” as they say!!

To this day, Clockwork Orange remains one of the most talked about and successful clubs to have ever set foot in Ibiza. The Clockwork crew lead the British invasion back in 1994, when they took over Es Paradis, and went onto become something of a global phenomenon. Everyone wanted to play for them. Everyone wanted to be on the guestlist. They were huge. It was the summer of 97, when Clockwork Orange reached the height of its powers. With Sky One screening the infamous Ibiza Uncovered back in Blighty, Danny Gould - in his Clockwork Orange emblazed white van, had become a mini-celebrity and the boys were untouchable. If you went to Ibiza, then you went to Clockwork Orange at Es Paradis. Simple as. Heck, as I write this I remember when I first went out to Ibiza in 98, I made sure that the first thing we did when we landed was buy our Clockwork Orange ticket!! It was the done thing. Back in London… the success was mirrored tenfold. The then Camden Palace was the venue of choice and the guys would have that place rammed and rocking within minutes of opening. Alongside our very own Gallery, it was the place to be seen at in London and stayed that way into the early Noughties.

The following paragraph, is an extract taken from ‘The Bugle Years’ – an honest and frank account of life at Clockwork, written by promoter Danny Gould. He said, “Like the eras of Elvis, The Beatles, Hendrix, the Who, Mods and skinheads or Bowie, Clockwork grew up with the Birth of House music. It was to be the most exciting musical explosion since Rock n’ Roll. The sound of our youth, ours I say for it has touched the hearts and souls of almost anyone, from adolescents to middle aged straight laced businessmen types. Those early Acid House warehouse days of 88, riding a rhythm to a Roland 303 squelch and bass crescendo, lasers arcing and fanning, fingers breaking its fluorescent beam like air piano keys, as the smoke machine belches dense billows of cloud white. A new dawn was upon the horizon. Those it touched became followers and pledged allegiance to the 1210’s and Bass bin gurus, arms raised high reaching for something, sweating like a steam engine boiler stoker with eyes like tea saucers. It is ingrained everywhere in all its different flavours and textures and styles and for 14 years Clockwork has been Firing on all cylinders precisely slap bang in its Nucleus.”

So here we are then at Turnmills, the scene of many a great Clockwork/Gallery collaboration, ready for this special one-off knees up. ‘Knees up’ is probably the best way to describe this big Bank Holiday event too, cos that’s exactly what you’re gonna get. All the old crowd will be out in force for this one, make no mistake and advance tickets are already selling out fast. Honestly… it’ll be like Friends Reunited; only with loud music and a wonky jaw!!

The line-up reflects the ‘Reunion’ vibe of the night with just about every major Clockwork DJ booked to play. The hub of the action will take place in the main room where Boy George will make a super-rare appearance behind the decks, alongside Allistair Whitehead, Jon Pleased Wimmin, Alex P and Clockwork war-horse Andy Manston. Room 2 meanwhile, will jump to a Balearic beat as Clockwork represents its Ibizan heritage with sets from island favourites Pete Gooding and Jason Bye, plus Tony Oneto, Andy Manston (again! Well it is his night!!) and Tom Antenuci. Then over in Room 3, look out for more blasts from the pasts as fellow legendary London club nights Velvet Underground, Milk Bar and F.U.B.A.R will all be in attendance. Nicky Holloway, Lisa Loud and Brandon Block were of course the 3 DJs responsible for those 3 clubs and all three spinners will be ripping up the decks and rolling back the years at the back of the club, with support from Steve Diamond. Finally, the Clockwork Orange Residents will be funking it up in the Topfloor room upstairs as Tony Nichollas, Danny Clockwork, Tony Grimley, Dave Lubin and Richard M lay down the beats.

It’s unlikely that an event of this kind will ever happen again, so if you wanna rekindle an old romance on the dancefloor, relive those tunes of that wonderful era or simply fancy coming down to see what all the fuss was about… then you really won’t be disappointed. The magic of Clockwork Orange lives on. Come and ‘Ave it’ for yourself!!
